PM World/UI/UX Fundamentals

🎨 UI/UX Fundamentals

Product managers don't need to be designers, but they must understand design principles to make informed trade-offs. UI (User Interface) is what users see and interact with. UX (User Experience) is how they feel while doing it. Good UX reduces cognitive load, guides users toward their goals, and creates moments of delight. PMs should be able to evaluate designs, articulate problems, and collaborate effectively with design teams.

Core UX Principles

Usability

Can users accomplish their tasks efficiently and error-free?

Accessibility

Can all users, including those with disabilities, use the product?

Consistency

Do similar interactions behave the same way throughout the product?

Feedback

Does the system clearly communicate what's happening and what happened?

Real-World Example

Apple's iPhone success was not just about technology — it was about UX fundamentals. The pinch-to-zoom gesture was intuitive because it mapped to how humans naturally interact with physical objects. Every interaction was designed to feel natural, reducing the learning curve for millions of first-time smartphone users.
